Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a lot of fun, and provides an opportunity for students to read award winning books that might not otherwise come to their attention.
It is school reading program for all 4th, 5th and 6th grade students sponsored by Gail Borden Public Library, Poplar Creek Library and Bartlett Library. Students on school teams read books from a selected list of fiction, nonfiction and picture books. Each school team competes with other school teams to answer questions about the books they have read. There are six meets, held at the sponsoring libraries, between November and March.
To prepare for the meets the St. Mary’s team meets once a week during lunch. We discuss the books and practice answering questions about the book titles, content, authors and illustrators. During the meets librarians pose questions to each team about the list books, and school teams accumulate points based correct answers.
The current reading list is available at www.gailborden.info/services/bob/battle.html.
